Covid-19 Cases Soar, Los Angeles Government Requires the Use of Masks

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, LOS ANGELES – City government The Angels forced to re-impose the mandatory mask rule after the number of cases of Covid-19 infection increased again.

Reporting from Reuters, public health officials will begin to require return use of masks this weekend. This spike in cases cannot be separated from the presence of the highly contagious Delta variant.

The mandate will take effect Saturday night (July 17) one minute before midnight, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health said.

“We require masks for everyone when indoors in public and business places, regardless of vaccination status,” the health ministry wrote on its official Twitter account Thursday (15/7).

The announcement comes after Los Angeles recorded more than 1,000 daily cases for six straight days.

As of Wednesday (14/7), there were nearly 400 people who were hospitalized due to Covid-19. That number is up 275 from the previous week. While 9 deaths related to Covid-19 were also recorded that day.

As of Thursday, there were more than 1,500 new infections reported. Seeing this condition, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) The Angels as a site of substantial transmission.

Delta variant invades the state of California

Besides The Angels, other regions in the state of California also felt the impact of the emergence of the Delta variant in recent weeks. It mostly affects unvaccinated people.

Starting Thursday, the Sacramento and Fresno Counties in California are recommending that masks be worn indoors even by people who are vaccinated.
