COVID-19 brought down the New York Post newsroom with the death of one of its star photographers

“Our eyes, our hearts and the loss of our city,” read the heartfelt presentation of this medium that, full page, published a photo of Anthony Causi, a much loved and respected photojournalist specializing in sports who died in April at North Shore University Hospital after catching the virus.

A few days ago, the ‘New York Post’ newspaper was an image that their newsroom would never have chosen. But the coronavirus pandemic said otherwise, even more so considering the complex situation that the United States is experiencing as a result of the penetration of COVID-19 among its population.

“Our eyes, our hearts and the loss of our city,” read the heartfelt presentation of this medium that, full page, published a photo of Anthony Causi, a much loved and respected photojournalist specializing in sports who died in April at North Shore University Hospital after catching the virus.

At the time of his death, Causi was 48 years old, married and had two young children, ages 5 and 2. Shortly after returning to New York, after spending a couple of months in Florida covering a sports activity, he was diagnosed with coronavirus, a condition that particularly affected him considering he had a pre-existing disease, diabetes.

“Anthony Causi was our colleague, our friend and a brilliant journalist,” said the editor-in-chief of the ‘New York Post’, Stephen Lynch, in the newspaper’s obituary.

“He was, quite simply, one of the best sports photographers in New York City, capturing all the important moments of the last 25 years. Soft-spoken, funny, but above all, kind: he was respected by those he photographed and admired by those with whom he worked, ”added Lynch.

“This nightmare is a reality that I will never be able to accept (…) my husband was and will always be greater than life,” Romina, her spouse, posted on Facebook. Additionally, the widow said she would make sure that her two young children found out about the “amazing man” that was Anthonhy, who was always available to come to the aid of his family and friends.

Before dying, the reporter published on his Instagram account a photo of himself hospitalized with a respirator. “I never thought something like this would happen. I thought it was indestructible. If I manage to get out of here, I promise you this: the world will not know what hit him “
