Covid-19: Apple postpones return to office until January 2022

There is a new postponement regarding the return to the office for employees at Apple, which will finally take place in January 2022. The plan was originally a return as early as September. Apple then decided to wait until October. And now we will finally have to wait until the beginning of next year.

At Apple, the return to the office instead in January 2022

Unsurprisingly, Apple has postponed the return to the office until January 2022 due to Covid-19, variants (including the delta variant) and the increase in the number of cases. “I know there is a feeling of frustration that the pandemic is not yet behind us”, wrote Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s vice president in charge of employees and Apple Stores, in a memo relayed by The Verge. “For many colleagues around the world, this time has been a time of great tragedy, pain and heartbreak. Know that we are all there to support each other and support each other in these difficult times ”, she added.

Deirdre O’Brien promises that Apple will notify employees a month before they return to the office. They will then be able to prepare properly. In the meantime, they remain teleworking. Some employees are still forced to go to work on site for the simple reason that some jobs cannot be done remotely.

The iPhone maker has previously said that employees will need to be present on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will be telecommuting on Tuesdays and Fridays. The return to the office will therefore be in January 2022 for employees at Apple … unless the situation evolves in the wrong direction.

In the meantime, some want to stay telework, and this permanently. But Apple has already declined their request. Some employees do not like this, with a few who did not hesitate to write directly to Tim Cook.
