Covid-19: 60 dead in the last 24 hours and 34,446 new infections recorded

Following a consultation with elected officials, the Minister of Health announced on Thursday new measures to try to curb a virulent fifth epidemic wave, articulated around three major axes: the generalization of the booster dose to all French people , the return of the obligation to wear a mask and a strengthening of the health pass.

Hospital data confirms the urgency to act. 34,446 new cases were recorded this Friday by Public Health France, against 33,464 Thursday. A milestone was reached this week, when there were 20,366 new daily contaminations last Friday. “The national incidence rate should exceed 200 by tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” Gabriel Attal predicted on Wednesday. This Friday, it stands at 231. That is an increase of 54% in one week.

At the hospital, 9,181 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated, according to the latest figures from Public Health France. They were 8,981 the day before and 7,940 seven days earlier. Hospitals have recorded 791 new admissions in France in the past 24 hours. 1,563 people are currently being treated in critical care units, which treat patients hardest hit by the virus. They were 1,499 the day before and 1,353 seven days ago. 60 new deaths from the infection have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 51,873,315 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 76.9% of the total population) and 50,786,197 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 75.3% of the total population). In addition, 6,583,934 people received a booster dose.
