They have lived marked by their first surname. Many carry the maternal one, although in the close circle they use the one they consider legitimate: that of a father who never acknowledged being so. Paternity lawsuits (or filiation, as they are known in legal slang) are the order of the day, but few know what lies behind: a childhood marked by absence and a present centered on a complex legal battle. Therefore, to join forces in and out of court, dozens of children not recognized by famous people have joined the Osuna Abogados law firm, specialized in this type of process –with more than 200 lawsuits currently in process–.
Among these plaintiffs there are several Malaga cases. One of them is Francisca España, who claims to be (and is about to be able to prove it) the daughter of former Real Madrid footballer Francisco Gento, and another family from the Costa del Sol who has been in a process of filiation with a European aristocrat. In the latter case, a Madrid court has ordered his mortal remains, buried in the Almudena Cathedral, to be searched.
David, the son of Francisca España (unrecognized grandson of Gento), explains to SUR that this new association is a connection space for people who have gone through something similar: “It is a place where we can defend ourselves, communicate, exchange impressions and feel united”. David Spain assures that the group has become “a family” that from now on will advance at the same pace in the legal processes.
Lawyer Fernando Osuna, founder of the Osuna law firm, points out that the objective of this new group is also in the media presence. Although, nevertheless, one of the great milestones to which they aspire is to get the Justice to provide free private investigators who are used to obtain the DNA tests. “This material is essential for the lawsuits to be accepted and progress in court, but it is expensive and not everyone can afford it.”
Osuna and the unrecognized children will request through official channels that this figure of the investigator be equated with the medical experts who assess the damage in traffic lawsuits.
Among the members of the association there are plaintiffs who claim to be the children of public figures and celebrities such as Julio Iglesias, soccer player Samuel Eto’o and one of the members of Los del Río.
