Couple found dead in possible murder-suicide or double suicide in Rome apartment and shopping center

Valerio Savino and Simona Lidulli, 63 and 64 years old, were found dead in the car and in bed in their home. He shot himself in the parking lot of a shopping center, while the cohabitant was found lifeless with a gunshot wound to the head in the bedroom of the apartment where they lived together in Rome 70, at the Ardeatino. This is what emerged following the inspection carried out by the public prosecutor and the coroner in the apartment in via Adolfo Consolini.

From an initial coroner inspection on the body of Smonetta, this is the full name of the 64-year-old, a gunshot wound to the head was found. Less than a kilometer away (about 750 meters), in the upper parking lot of the ‘I Granai’ shopping center, in via Mario Rigamonti, the body of his companion, Valerio Savino, 63, was found in a car, also with a gunshot wound. The carabinieri of the Rome Eur company are investigating the case, coordinated by the prosecutor’s office, who are carrying out the findings to ascertain whether it is a double suicide or a murder-suicide. It is therefore not entirely excluded that she too may have taken her own life.

The request for intervention at 112 around 11:30 on Tuesday 13 June after the alarm raised on social media by the man. The carabinieri then intervened in via Adolfo Consolini and found the body of a woman lying on the bed. Immediate searches by the military of the weapon of the woman’s partner, who left in a car.

However, the man’s searches were tragically interrupted shortly after when he was found dead in his car in the upper parking lot of the I Granai shopping center, after having committed suicide with a gunshot.

The tragedy took place almost live on social media. As can be seen from the chronology of posts published on Facebook message boards, the message with the words “Goodbye” would have been published first on Simona Lidulli’s message board (at 10:50) and then the message from Valerio Sovino, at 10:57. A double tragedy which took place within a radius of less than a kilometre. The man was in fact found dead in the parking lot of the shopping center in via Mario Rigamonti, about 750 meters from the apartment where the 63-year-old lived with Simona Lidulli. A real mystery then solved by the investigators of the Arma.

The message on facebook

The alarm, as mentioned, started from a post on the man’s social networks, written at 10.57 am: “Goodbye, all my friends. My earthly life and that of Simona end here. Together forever and ever. A thought from affection and gratitude to all of you. For us lovers of opera and melodrama, this represents the most coherent choice we could make. I apologize to those I have hurt”. Many desperate comments, with someone who alerted the police. The woman, in turn, seven minutes before her wrote an eloquent: “Goodbye.”
