Coupe de France: a recovery with the fans but no surprises

Most clubs weren’t too keen on returning to competition for the Coupe de France after a three-month hiatus. Given the constraints of the curfew and the professional obligations of the players, some had not even been able to train this week. Others, according to our information, have succeeded in defying the ban with the blessing of their municipality … But like the players of Villejuif, who performed sessions at 6.30 am or those of the VGA Saint- Maur who took days off or hours of rest to be able to train in the middle of the afternoon, we tried to adapt.

And, unlike many provincial clubs who preferred to withdraw, the 18 “small” Ile-de-France clubs still in contention were on the ground. Already a first victory given the heavy constraints to organize matches and health protocols.

Ivry-Red Star from Wednesday

But, as was to be expected, given the disparities in preparation, he missed what makes the charm of this competition: the surprises. Even if some teams have been hooked like Drancy (N3) at the petit poucet Parisis (1st division), the hierarchy has been respected.

The two representatives of the National, the Red Star and Créteil, who continued to compete in their championship normally qualified on Saturday. Without major worries (4-1) for the Red Star who had made the Mée run a lot (R1). On the other hand, Créteil snatched the qualification during additional time at Sainte-Geneviève (2-1).

The late 6th round match between Ivry (N3) and the Red Star will take place on Saturday 6 February (2 p.m.). The 7th round with four Ile-de-France posters is also scheduled for next weekend. Fleury (N2) will travel to Pontarlier (N3).
