Sint-Katelijne-WavreIt is sometimes said ‘postponement leads to adjustment’, but not in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, where the year 2021 was still being sounded this afternoon. Due to corona, the local government had to postpone the New Year’s reception at the start of 2021. But ten months later it still happened, with a countdown.

“We have promised our residents to organize the reception later in the year, when corona would allow it again. We are now fulfilling that promise. We think it is important, even more than ever after the past year and a half, to bring people together.” Alderman for Festivities in Sint-Katelijne-Waver Eric Janssens (CD&V) explained why the municipality is still organizing a New Year’s reception at the end of October. Not that it stopped the residents from coming to the town hall for chips. “I have only heard positive reactions. People like that they can still sound like 2021. A New Year’s reception in October is also something unique,” said the ships.

Mayor Kristof Sels (N-VA) had not prepared a speech this time. The mayor did start a countdown ten seconds before twelve o’clock. “Promise is guilt,” Maria winks, who was present with her neighbors from the Waterstraat. “Every year we come to the New Year’s reception with the same clique. It won’t be for this year, we thought. But now we are here. It is nice that the municipality has still put something in place.” The Franckx-Verhelst family did not think that the countdown to 2021 with the autumn sun on its face was so bizarre. “In Australia they also do it in the sun, why shouldn’t it be possible in Katelijne? We allow them to organize such a party every month. This is already a good exercise for next year.”
