Could Jack survive? The director of “Titanic” finally debunks the myth

Fans are convinced that the main character of the film, Jack (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), should not have died in the film – he would have survived if he had been on the floating door with Rose (played by Kate Winslet).

The film’s director, James Cameron, has also responded to these speculations. “We did a scientific study to settle this once and for all,” Cameron said.

He continues: “We did a thorough analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the raft from the film. We took two stuntmen who had the same body mass as Kate and Leo and attached sensors to them, put them in cold water and tested if they could survive, using different methods. The answer is: it’s impossible for both to survive. Only one could survive.”

When asked if he regrets killing off DiCaprio’s character, Cameron dismissively replies, “Jack had to die.”

He added that “Titanic” is a film about “love, sacrifice and mortality”.
