Corona in India Takes Many Lives, Even Industrial Bodies Urge Economic Restrictions

NEW DELHI, – A leading industry body in India urged authorities to limit economic activity to curb the spread Covid-19.

President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uday Kotak said the highest response was needed to cut off the spread Covid-19 in India which is massive.

Launch Reuters, Sunday (2/4/2021), India reported 392,488 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, bringing the total cases in the country to 19.56 million.

The Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank added that the hospital was fully occupied, the supply of medical oxygen was running low, and the morgue and crematorium was overwhelmed.

“At a tipping point when the death toll rises, CII urges the strongest national measures including limiting economic activity to alleviate suffering,” said Kotak.

However, the government of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi reluctant to enforce lockdown for worrying about the economic impact of an economic shutdown.

On the other hand, at least 11 states and union territories have imposed various forms of social restrictions.

Newspaper Indian Express reported on Sunday that the Covid-19 task force in India had even advised the central government to enforce it lockdown national.

Odisha state and Haryana state were the latest territories to announce lockdown on Sunday, joining Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and West Bengal.

Other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan have imposed curfew or lockown weekend.

Lockdown fear

Last month, Modi said, all efforts should be made to avoid lockdown.

She was worried, lockdown will make the Indian economy contract as happened last year.

Last year, he imposed strict restrictions on movement and social and economic activity in the early months of the pandemic.

As a result, India’s economic output fell 24 percent in April-June 2020 compared to the same period the previous year.

On Sunday, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said his country would send more ventilators in the near future.

Modi’s government has been criticized for not taking previous steps to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Modi has also been inundated with criticism for letting millions of people, mostly unmasked, attend vibrant religious festivals and political activities in five states.

On Saturday (1/5/2021), Reuters reported, a scientific advisory forum set up by the government had already warned officials in early March about a new variant of the corona virus.

The new variant of the corona virus in India is said to be more contagious.
