Coté López triumphs in the world of makeup: he told details of his line and obstacles he faced | Trends and Healthy Living

It was a few months ago when María José López revealed that she would launch her own makeup line, which she named CLo by Coté López.

And after a long wait – and in the midst of a pandemic – last Friday the sale of its first products began: lipsticks, eyeliners and a powder bronzer.

Days before the official date, Coté and his team made a pre-sale and the stock for this was sold out in minutes. This anticipated what would happen on Friday, as currently only some lip liners are available, everything else “swept” on your page CLobycotelopez.cl.

López joined a trend that has been seen for some time, in which powerful figures of the show are launching their own businesses related to cosmetics, such as Kylie Jenner (Kylie Cosmetics), Kim Kardashian (KKW Beauty), Jennifer Lopez (JLo Beauty) y Selena Gomez (Rare Beauty), among others.

In Chile, María José is one of the pioneers in carrying out this business. For this reason, Página 7 spoke with the writer to find out more details about this important project and what is coming for her brand.

López said that everything started when he was still living in Dubai with his family. It is no secret to anyone that Coté likes it and wears makeup. In fact, on several occasions his Instagram followers have asked him about his products and techniques.

But it was not until he returned to Chile that the project became a reality. “I’ve been working with the line for a year and a half”Coté recalled.

Unlike other makeup brands, CLo by Coté López was promoted by María José alone, without the support or alliance with another large company in the industry.

“Obviously I have a team, I hired people and everything, but I did everything alone”, clarified López.

In this sense, Coté said that he had to face several challenges, especially in the context of the pandemic in terms of product approval and also import, as they are made in Europe.

“The most difficult thing was the issue of shipments, because the pandemic delayed the entire process in Customs, so it was super slow”he commented.

Regarding the production process, María José indicated that she could not travel, so she received samples and had to be in constant video calls to achieve the perfect product.

“Since we had to do everything remotely, I had to wait for things to come to me and correct them like that. It could have been much faster if I had been in Europe, “he added.

“The process was long and hard. Very difficult, really, he confessed between laughs.

Inspiration and what’s next for CLo

As detailed by María José, their products are mainly inspired by the shades that you like and that you use constantly. In its first launch, for example, there are lipsticks in “nude” tones and also more powerful ones, such as red and burgundy.

For López, makeup is a form of expression and it can even reflect the personality of each person.

“It is an extra help that can make you feel in different ways according to the personality of each person, how you feel emotionally on a particular day. I think it’s super entertaining to be able to change and not always be the same person “, he expressed.

Coté pointed out that what he is looking for with his line and products is that they be “Transversal, that reach all types of audiences” and also to motivate people to get out of their comfort zone and “dare” with new trends.

Finally, María José announced that while she is preparing the restock of her sold-out products, new products will be available very soon, such as “Eyeliners, highlighters, serum and hair mask, and other surprises”.
