Côte d’Ivoire: Independent Electoral Commission rejects Gbagbo and Soro’s appeal requests

Published on :

In Côte d’Ivoire, the Independent Electoral Commission rendered its decision in the dispute over electoral lists. 11,000 people had filed appeals, noting errors in their registration, or simply their absence from the lists. Some well-known Ivorians: Laurent Gbagbo (FPI and former president) and Guillaume Soro (GPS and presidential candidate for next October), excluded from the lists, have seen the appeals against them rejected. Their supporters have three days to challenge this decision before the court of their locality, Ferkéssédougou for Guillaume Soro, Angré for Laurent Gbabgo. The judges will then have five days to rule. FPI and GPS have already announced that they will use all legal remedies to oppose these withdrawals from the electoral roll.
