Costs and Financial Challenges of the British Royal Family Revealed: Inflation, Maintenance, and Diverse Workforce

In recent years, several Norwegians have noticed that the economy has become tougher. There is war in Europe, electricity prices have skyrocketed, and the Norwegian krone is weak against other currencies.

It is more important than it has been in a long time to live frugally.

– Have failed the royal family completely

The royals in Great Britain are also keen to take action to save money, to the extent that they have been willing to freeze a little extra during the winter months.

Sky News now reports that the temperature at Buckingham Palace was set to 19 degrees this winter – and that it was turned down to 16 degrees if a room was empty.

Still increased

Despite this move, it appears in the report Sovereign Grant that the British royal house has cost more this year than the previous one. Expenditure has increased by as much as 5 per cent, which amounts to approximately £5.1 million. This corresponds to close to 70 million Norwegian kroner.

Reveals: – More frustration

It is claimed that the reason for the increase is inflation, change of monarch and maintenance of Buckingham Palace. The maintenance is an ongoing project that will last over ten years – and will upgrade electrical cables, pipes and heating.

Despite the fact that the British royal house has cost more, they have managed to keep some costs down, if you compare with last year’s report.

Travel costs have decreased by NOK 8 million. This year’s most expensive trip was King Charles (74) and Queen Camilla’s (75) trip to Rwanda, which cost 2.5 million.

– The relationship between them is serious

Failed

The report not only looks at the finances of the British royal family, but also whether they have achieved various goals. Among other things, the royal house has a target for diversity, and it is in this that 10 per cent of their workforce must come from minorities.

They did not reach this target – 9.7 per cent of the workers come from minority groups, and the figure is the same as in the previous report.

Despite the insight gained in the Sovereign Grant report, Laura Bundock, royal correspondent, says the costs are not as black and white as they appear.

– They are very angry

– There are expenses and income that we never see.

Graham Smith, the leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic, is critical of the figures in the report.

– They should cut the budgets by ten million pounds, not increase it by five million.
