Corrupt Colonel and Accomplice Arrested in Ukrainian Army Corruption Scheme

The corrupt colonel entered into an agreement with his accomplice to purchase goods for defense and received a bribe for this.

SBU officers uncovered a corruption scheme involving the conclusion of contracts for the supply of goods for the Ukrainian army. As part of the operation to suppress illegal activities, a colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who holds the position of head of one of the departments of the Command of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the general director of a company involved in the supply of goods for defense were detained.

About it reported in the press service of the department.

According to investigators, the corrupt colonel intended to receive 45 thousand dollars from his accomplice for help in concluding a contract for the supply of goods for the army in the amount of 36 million UAH.

The accomplices were caught red-handed when the businessman handed over the first part of the bribe in the amount of 14.6 thousand dollars to the colonel.

As part of the searches that were carried out in the homes and workplaces of those involved in the case, SBU officers seized documentation proving the existence of a criminal scheme.

In addition, almost 10 million UAH in cash of unknown origin was discovered.

The detainees were declared suspicious for ⁠h. 3 tbsp. 368 and part 3 of Art. 369 CC. If the guilt of the suspects is proven in court, they may end up behind bars for up to 10 years with confiscation of property.

Let us remind you that this week SBI officers announced suspicions against Lviv businessman Igor Grinkevich and his accomplices in the case of fraud with Defense Ministry contracts.

It became known the day before that the State Bureau of Investigation has not yet detained the son of the mentioned businessman Roman Grinkevich because it cannot establish his whereabouts. The suspect did not officially cross the border; he was put on the wanted list.
