The facts unfolded on an American Airlines flight, as the plane was about to take off. In a video relayed on Twitter, a woman is seen ready to disembark, gathering her luggage before leaving the plane to the applause of the other passengers. She had refused to wear a protective mask, which had become mandatory on this American airline to curb the spread of Covid-19.
As a reminder, in the United States, more than 4 million people are infected with the coronavirus to date, and nearly 150,000 have already died. “You can applaud as much as you want”, tries to defend the free-rider, who prefers to leave the plane definitively under boos, rather than agreeing to equip herself with a mask.
“Just go,” retorts another passenger. Less than a week after its broadcast, the video – previously posted on the Tik Tok mobile app – had already been viewed by more than 1.4 million people on Twitter.
The rules set out by the American airline company are however clear: any passenger who does not respect the health rules linked to the Covid-19 epidemic can be disembarked.
“Wearing a mask is mandatory if you are traveling on an American Airlines flight, except for very young children or people whose state of health does not allow them to wear one”, we can read on the French version of the company’s website.
