Advil, Nurofen, Spedifen or Ibuprofene are common anti-inflammatory drugs to fight against fever or pain, but against which the Minister of Health warns. “In the case of Covid-19, taking anti-inflammatory drugs may aggravate the infection. In case of fever, take paracetamol. In case of contamination with Covid-19, these drugs could weaken the patients’ immune defenses. “
To bring down the fever, in self-medication, doctors recommend paracetamol instead. However, if you have a chronic illness and are taking anti-inflammatories or corticosteroids, you should not stop the treatments. If in doubt about a prescription, it is better to turn to your general practitioner. “What should not be done is to suddenly decide to stop corticosteroids. There are transplant recipients, immuno-depressed (…) who are on corticosteroid therapy, above all you must not stop”, says Dr. Patrick Goldstein, head of the emergency medical aid service at the Lille hospital center (North).
