Coronavirus: Vietnam’s song about washing hands becomes a hit

“Wash your hands, do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth, limit your visits to crowded places, push the corona virus back” – this chorus, backed by a pop melody, is currently becoming a viral hit. The song is called “Ghen Cô Vy” and was released by the Vietnamese Institute for Health at Work and Environment in collaboration with national musicians. Vietnam shows how innovative information about the spread of the corona virus can be given without underestimating the danger situation. The song describes methods by which society can easily and effectively guard against the spread of the corona virus. Min, a singer involved, writes on YouTube that the project aims to restore trust to society.

“Pushes the Corona Virus Back”

The song has now found fans all over the world – especially after the moderator John Oliver drew attention to it in his “Late Night Show”. “Vietnam has made a song about hand washing to prevent corona virus infection and it is absolutely essential,” says Oliver. “This is a real club hit.”

The video also inspires in the TikTok video app. The Vietnamese dancer Quang Đăng invented his own choreo for the song. The hashtag #quangdang has been viewed almost six million times on TikTok.

Right hand washing – but how?

Frequent hand washing can protect you from infection with the corona virus. Washing hands sounds trivial at first, but there are a few things you should be aware of. For thorough cleaning, hands should first be moistened with water and then soaped with soap. First the palms of the hands, then both backs of the hands. It should be noted that the spaces between fingers are not forgotten. Correct and effective soaping takes about 20 to 30 seconds. Then the hands should be washed under running water and dried with a dry, clean cloth.
