Coronavirus. The temptation to go out is growing

The seams crack. The need to get some fresh air and run the store is growing. And this is what drives many French people to go out more in recent days, while complying with the instructions of the government.

There is actually more people on the streets recognized, this Sunday, the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner. But the French controlled are in good standing and the police don’t verbalize more.

This is also what Jean-Claude Mahé, the mayor of Dinard (Ille-et-Vilaine) notes. We see a lot more people on the streets, couples, families … but they respect the authorized walking time. This weekend, we only had one verbalization: a bather. People behave well, respect distances, wear masks more and more.

The latest data from the barometerDatacovid association (with the Ipsos institute) show an overall increase in the average time spent outside each day. And the phenomenon seems to be intensifying.

Gradual return to “normal”

I reopened on Monday April 13 to do takeout, says Ms. Pavart, manager of the restaurant Au Palais d´Asie in downtown Chantepie, near Rennes. At the beginning, I only had one or two clients a day, people did not go out. However, for the past few days, this has been increasing. Saturday, I had fifteen clients. I am facing the entrance to the Intermarket and I can see that there are more people. People seem happy to see that it is gradually returning to normal and order me.

The same is true for Philippe Couasnon, responsible for four Intermarché and one Netto in the Cotentin (Manche). This Saturday, we worked particularly well compared to the previous Saturdays. Around 10% to 15% more. But it may be related to the fact that Friday was a holiday or that pay has just fallen. It is difficult to explain the evolution of behavior.

Little by little, many so-called stores not essential have also restarted the machine. Do-it-yourself, gardening, household appliances, haberdashery but also cultural goods are reopening, at least for take-away. Cars reappear in the Cultura, Decathlon or Boulanger car parks. In Rennes as in Angers, Leroy Merlin reopened its doors to the public.

“The problem of small paths”

The end of confinement is long overdue. Overwhelmed with calls, some hairdressers already have no appointment available before … June 2! We feel that people are really fed up with it and no longer want it, confides this manager of a salon in the Rennes region.

The next few days will be crucial. Especially since the government has warned. In the event of release, the date of April 11 may be postponed. This is what Jean-Claude Mahé, the mayor of Dinard, fears. Next weekend, on the eve of deconfinement, it will undoubtedly be very complicated. Already deprived of Easter, from 1 er May and May 8, we expect a lot of people. People will be tempted to take the risk of a fine. Last week, we already had a group of young people from Rennes who came to bathe.

So the mayor is already starting to organize himself in anticipation. The problem is the small coastal paths. People need to see the sea again. We are thinking of establishing a single direction. It’s doable.
