Coronavirus: The pandemic causes a negative or very negative impact on 84% of Galician companies | Radio Coruña

84 percent of Galician companies suffer a negative or very negative impact from the coronavirus pandemic and his economic crisis derived. In fact, half of the companies work at less than 60 percent normal activity. They are the most outstanding data of the barometer on the economic consequences of the pandemic prepared by the SER chain in Galicia, at the initiative of Radio Coruña Group, In collaboration with KPMG.

Only fifteen percent of the companies consulted say that the coronavirus crisis has not affected them – even 1% say that they are doing better than before the pandemic – but the rest do suffer the consequences, especially the drop in demand for products and services.

Labor impact

More than half have had to lower their investments, a third has reduced the template and almost all have had to introduce changes in their activity to promote telecommuting and apply new measures of hygiene and safety. 55% of Galician companies claim to have resorted to making their working hours more flexible, while 37% indicate that they have applied ERTE or reduced working hours due to force majeure (21% have done so for productive reasons).

The companies state that they have no financing, but they do claim to the Administrations tax rebates, liquidity facilities and aid for digitization and internationalization.

Future perspectives

The heads of the companies expect the situation to improve in the next three months and, especially, within a year. 65% of those surveyed consider that their company’s activity will be above 80%. Even 27% believe that it will be higher than the one recorded before the pandemic.

The Barometer

He ‘Barometer of COVID-19 in Galician companies’ It includes the evolution in recent months of the business prospects that companies in Galicia have, as well as the measures they are taking or planning to take to alleviate the effects of the pandemic on their business models. Its results have been obtained from the data collected in the survey during the days of June 1 to 26, 2020.

The total sample collected has been of 130 business perspectives, belonging to 16 different sectors of the Galician economy, on measures against COVID-19 and measures of the Public Administration adapted to the situation.
