Coronavirus, Sweden | Sweden: Continued increase in infection

Large difference from region to region in Sweden, but nationally the infection rates continue to increase.

Sweden has so far in the pandemic registered 695,975 cases of infection, 5415 intensive care units and 13,042 coronary-related deaths (an increase of 39 in the last 24 hours).

– We still see an increase nationally, but the picture is divided, said unit manager Sara Byfors in the Public Health Authority.

The incidence rate for Sweden is now 522 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

Here it increases the most

In Norrbotten, the number of insiders is 713, while Skåne, for example, may point to a downward trend.

Gävleborg is one of the regions where it is increasing the most. Here the inside number is 913.

– I really hope that our residents do their best to follow the recommendations to reduce the spread of infection, which has increased sharply recently, says infection control doctor Shah Jalal in Gävleborg according to a press release from the region.

8000 in telephone queue – many unnecessary

This weekend there were long telephone queues to book a vaccine in Gävleborg. 8000 calls were registered. Upon closer examination, it turned out that only half of the callers were prioritized for vaccine, reports Swedish Television.

More than 13,000 people have been registered with corona-related deaths during the pandemic.

Screening samples of positive samples show a high proportion of mutated virus variants in Sweden. There is still an increasing prevalence of the English virus variant (B.1.1.17). Here it differs between 6 to 60 percent in the regions.

There is still a low incidence of other possible variants (P.1 and B.1.351), the Public Health Authority states.

Sweden is approaching 1 million distributed vaccine doses (986,389). 316,439 have received two vaccine doses in Sweden.

Unit manager Sara Byfors in the Public Health Agency, crisis preparedness manager Johanna Sandwall and Svante Werger in the Agency for Civil Protection and Emergency Preparedness briefed at the press conference on Tuesday.

Concerned about commuters to Norway

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven commented on the infection control measures in Norway in one post on Instagram.

– When borders are suddenly closed, it primarily affects the people who live near the border, he writes and points to the group of Swedes who since January 29 this year have not been able to get a job in Norway and thus have not been able to get paid or any other financial support from Norway.

– The government has therefore had a constant dialogue with the Norwegian government to find solutions for the people who commute to Norway, Löfven writes and refers to talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg at the end of February.

Here, Sweden was informed that Norway is opening the border for day commuters, which Löfven describes as “good, but not sufficient”. This is especially true if weekly commuters are not covered by the border opening, Löfven emphasizes in the Instagram post.
