Coronavirus: Spain orders all hotels to be closed

The fourth country most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in the world has ordered the closure of all hotels in the territory.

LSpain, the fourth most affected country in the world by the coronavirus pandemic, has ordered the closure of all hotels in its territory, a measure published Thursday in the official state bulletin (BOE).

This measure implies “the suspension of the opening to the public of all hotels and similar accommodation, tourist accommodation and other accommodation for short stays (…) located on the national territory”, can be read in the BOE.

As of Thursday, hotels in Spain, the second largest tourist destination in the world, will therefore have to close for seven working days to curb the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Only long-term accommodation establishments will remain open, provided that they have the infrastructure necessary for their occupants to comply with the almost total confinement currently imposed throughout the country.

Spain is the second European country most affected by the coronavirus epidemic, and the fourth worldwide, with 767 deaths and 17,147 infections.

The government declared a state of emergency on Saturday, putting in place draconian measures to keep the population confined.
