The number of corona cases in Germany is increasing. The Robert Koch Institute therefore warns of an increased risk of infection and points out the protection provided by the vaccination.
Frankfurt – Because the corona virus * has recently spread again strongly in Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) warns of a growing risk of infection. “With the current seven-day incidence there is an increasing likelihood of infectious contacts,” said the RKI’s latest weekly report from Thursday evening (October 28, 2021), according to the German press agency.
A vaccination against Covid-19 is “strongly recommended”. You should also pay attention to the complete vaccination protection and also get the second injection, which is provided for almost all corona vaccines *.
Coronavirus in Germany: RKI warns of an increased risk of infection
The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections * increased on Friday (October 29, 2021) to a value of 139.2. The RKI announced this, citing data from the health authorities. The previous day the incidence was 130.2, a week ago it was 95.1. The value indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 people within seven days.
If you have mild symptoms, you should stay at home and get tested, if possible with PCR, tweeted the RKI. This also applies to those who have been vaccinated. Contacts that are not necessary should be reduced and the rules of conduct for protection against infections should be strictly adhered to.
Spread of the coronavirus: RKI advises on booster vaccination
The groups of people to whom the Standing Vaccination Commission Booster vaccination recommended* should also take advantage of this option, according to the RKI. The booster vaccination is usually the third vaccination. It should take place at the earliest six months after the basic immunization. So far, the booster vaccination has been recommended by Stiko for people aged 70 and over and people in medical and care facilities.
However, the health ministers of the sixteen countries recently decided in agreement with Jens Spahn * (CDU *) that a recommendation from Stiko is not necessary in order to receive a booster vaccination. “People who may not have an adequate or rapidly declining immune response after a full vaccination” should be offered a booster vaccination. So it says on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Rising number of cases in Germany: RKI points to a “pronounced effect” of the corona vaccination
The RKI notes that the proportion of people who have been vaccinated has hardly risen in the past few weeks. Citing own calculations, however, it was said that a “pronounced effect” of the corona vaccination to prevent Covid 19 diseases and hospital admissions in Germany has been proven. The RKI compared the respective incidences in the unvaccinated and the fully vaccinated population.
The result was that in the vaccinated population, both the weekly incidence of cases with symptoms and the incidence of hospital admissions were well below the respective values of the unvaccinated population, it said. This applies to the two age groups analyzed (18 to 59 and from 60 years of age) and to the entire study period from mid-July to mid-October.
RKI sounds the alarm: Significant increase in incidences in all age groups
The rising trend of seven-day incidences can be observed in all age groups. Sudden increases are also visible in the elderly. In people over 90, for example, the seven-day incidence rose from 63 to 108 in a weekly comparison. There was also a significant increase in old people’s and nursing homes and medical facilities, it said. “This year’s case numbers are significantly higher than in the same period last year.”
The RKI has been emphasizing since the summer that it expects increasing numbers for autumn and winter. The seven-day incidence has been rising steadily for the past two weeks.
