The United States is shifting into high gear. On Friday, December 11, the US Medicines Agency gave the green light to the marketing of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. A nationwide vaccination campaign will therefore be able to begin on Monday, December 14, which is a huge logistical challenge. “This is a virtually unprecedented operation in the country’s history,” insists Gallagher Fenwick, journalist at France 24 and guest of franceinfo 23h Sunday 13 December. “Three million doses are going to be inoculated this week, it never happened.”
Nearly 300,000 people have already died from the coronavirus in the United States. “If you look at the number of people who die from Covid every day, that sort of corresponds to a daily September 11”, notes the journalist. The skepticism of the inhabitants with regard to the need to resort to the vaccine remains nevertheless quite strong. To set an example, former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are said to have planned to be vaccinated in front of the cameras.
