Coronavirus: Metro Madrid and Cercanías increase their service from this Monday | Madrid

The return of many non-essential workers to their jobs is causing the demand for public transport to increase again. In response, Metro de Madrid and Cercanías Madrid have announced they will reinforce their offer starting this Monday.

Renfe adds 1,000 trains to the circulation in rush hour and semi-point, this incorporation translates into an increase of 27.5% in supply compared to last week. As the company explains in a statement, the objective is to “facilitate” that the safety distance between travelers is respected and avoid crowds. This new strategy involves providing a service at 80% in rush hour and 50% in off-peak hours during the day. working day on a typical day. On holidays, the service will be maintained as before.

By lines the C5, which is the one with the largest flow of travelers, is reinforced by 25%. In C4 the service is increased with a frequency of 10 minutes throughout the day. In the Henares Corridor, the main increase occurs in the trains between Alcalá de Henares and Chamartín, by expanding seats throughout the day; and promoting at rush hour the trains between Vicálvaro and Chamartín.

Civis services are also recovered on line C3, both from Aranjuez and on the Civis trains that connect to El Escorial, with a considerable increase in seats at rush hour and semi-tip on weekdays. In addition, the Green Corridor recovers the four train services an hour to the Airport T4 station.

For its part, Metro de Madrid has also announced in a note that it expands its offer starting this Monday, especially at rush hour and maintaining the priority of service on lines with stops in hospitals. However, the note from the Community of Madrid does not detail either the previous situation or the percentage of reinforcement, nor a greater detail by lines. It only says that “the agreed offer guarantees the necessary mobility of workers, as well as the provision of an essential public service for citizens such as the suburban”.
