Coronavirus: Mayor of Briançon requests “health control at the border”

The Coronavirus epidemic is progressing in Italy. Transalpine authorities report 150 detected cases, 7 deaths and 11 cities placed in quarantine. “Shouldn’t health checks be organized at the border? At the very least, shouldn’t we set up a crisis unit?” wonders this Monday morning Gérard Fromm, the mayor of Briançon, a town located 12 kilometers from the French-Italian border at the Montgenèvre pass.

Questions transmitted by the local elected official to the Hautes-Alpes prefecture and which echo the strong period of tourist flow in the Briançonnais ski resorts via Italy (Turin airport, Oulx TGV station, E70 motorway ).

The mayor of Briançon is not the first to worry about the situation. In the Alpes-Maritimes, deputy Eric Ciotti also calls for the reinstatement of controls at the Franco-Italian border. On Europe 1, the Director General of Health, Jérôme Salomon, responded to these concerns and considered that such a measure would be “ineffective”.
