WhatsApp received the greatest benefit from the pandemic, which even before the coronavirus was the most popular messenger. This conclusion was reached by the analytical company Kantar after a survey of 25 thousand consumers on the Internet in 30 different markets in the world.

According to the survey, the popularity of WhatsApp against the backdrop of coronavirus increased by 40% over a short period from March 14 to March 24. This is because people during self-isolation and quarantine began to communicate more through messengers – write, share photos, call or create group chats so as not to lose touch with live people.

Other social networks and instant messengers also show a sharp increase in popularity. For example, the total activity of people on Facebook grew by 37%. In some countries there is a more abnormal growth – the Weibo social network and the WeChat messenger in China have become 58% more popular.

At the same time, the survey participants roughly halved those who trust the traditional sources of news about the coronavirus in the form of state media and the resources of government agencies, and those who do not believe them.
