Coronavirus – Le Mans: tests, masks, markets, canceled events … Mayor Stéphane le Foll made the point

The city of Le Mans will set up a method to support the decisions taken by the President of the Republic from May 11.

As for the tests, it will be a question of developing them to the maximum. The Le Mans Hospital Center will adapt, as will private and public laboratories in relation to the department and the ARS (regional health agency).
Within the framework of PCR tests (nasal intake which confirms or not the presence of the virus), it is the city doctors and the hospital center who will implement them in order to then ensure medical follow-up and if necessary carry out the isolation of the affected patient.
This work will be done jointly with social landlords who know their tenants well.

The mayor raised the issue of masks. Different orders have been placed to anticipate needs.
The first order amounts to 70,000 masks arriving regularly, supplemented each week by 2,000 sanitary masks intended for nursing homes and nursing staff.
In addition, 1,500 washable AFNOR approved masks are already distributed to ripeurs, association volunteers and municipal employees present in the field.

As in other municipalities, the open-air markets will reopen after obtaining the prefectural exemption.
Next Sunday, the Jacobins and Pontlieue markets will once again welcome traders and customers.
But the organization will be strict: spacing between customers and traders, respect for barrier gestures and wearing of the recommended mask.

When the government has specified the framework for the schools and their reopenings, the municipality will take action (disinfection, soap, masks, hydroalcoholic gel).

As for the Metropolis, it will gradually resume part of its activities next week with, among other things, the maintenance of green spaces on the basis of volunteer teams.

The cancellation of certain cultural events is already underway: Le Mans is doing its circus and its parade, school parties and neighborhood parties, the Plein Champ festival. We must avoid large groupings said the mayor, without specifying the gauge but by recalling that it is the space of the place that will dictate the rule.

On the other hand, there is no question of closing the leisure centers which will remain open this summer to welcome children safely for them and the staff. The will is to refocus on small groups. It is in this context that the Night of Chimera, artistic illuminations of the city’s buildings, will take place between July and August.

For Stéphane Le Foll, mayor of Le Mans, it is necessary to remain vigilant and the municipal police will be there to watch over the rules of distancing as soon as there will be a little public as on the markets.
He clarified that it was not possible to distribute masks to the entire population but everyone should be careful.
