Coronavirus in the village of Santo Stefano alla Maddalena: The test, then an abandoned family in the room

Dr. Alessandro M. he manages the Italian branch of a German company, he is 48 years old, has a wife, three children and has closed since Tuesday in the Santo Stefano resort, in front of the island of Maddalena, here in Sardinia. Ms. M. tested positive for Covid – the only case out of 340 guests – and the entire family armored in one hotel room. Since the result of the swab arrived – reported verbally, no report arrived – the room is not cleaned. There are no tables. Children – 5, 7 and 10 years old – they eat on the ground, sitting on the suitcases. The family comes from Cream: he lives two hundred meters from my house, but we don’t know each other. I know for the situation because Alessandro M. wrote me, yesterday afternoon, a very embittered email: Abandoned to ourselves. I will never return to this island again. He gave me the phone number, I called him, he explained the situation to me. Only the Hon. Emanuele Fiano, who was a guest in the resort, and Stefania Bonaldi, mayor of Crema, tried to help him. For the rest, silence. I wrote and phoned everyone here in Sardinia. My wife is fine, asymptomatic. But why don’t you send me a doctor, don’t check the blood saturation, don’t tell me when we can go home? Won’t you show me the report? Nothing. Only the manager of the facility bus-a to the door, every now and then. And tonight they told me that the health company will be contacting us for psychological support.

The story is interesting because it proves one thing: wars are faced by winning battles. Sardinia, almost spared by Covid in the spring (apart from the Sassari area), she was right to worry; but he could get ready for the summer. When the proposal for an entrance test / immunity certificate put forward by the governor Christian Solinas proved impracticable – constitutionally, scientifically, touristically – the Region should have organized itself better: it was taken for granted that a large influx of people led to an increase in infections. The common sense which I saw in August on many beaches, in bars and restaurants – in Gallura and Sinis, in the south and in Ogliastra, in Budoni – unfortunately was not enough. Why reopen the discos and ignore other risky situations (the boats that take tourists to Cala Luna and other spectacular places)? Why close your eyes on the nightlife of San Teodoro? Why not remember how northern Sardinia attracts wealthy young people who move to the busiest places in Europe in the summer (Spain, Croatia, Malta)? Why not check, upon landing, the self-certifications, which we guests had sent through the Sardegna Sicura app? Sardinia will not be closed, of course. And it has a lot of credits towards the rest of Italy. Even in this circumstance, somehow, victim of circumstances. But he must understand that complaining is useless; argue, not even. Governors, parliamentarians, councilors, mayors engaged in quarreling with Flavio Briatore. It is unacceptable to brand us as untori !, Damage to our image !, Incoming and outgoing tests !, the Giallorossi government that must close. This collection of declarations is useless now. Instead, organization, speed and precision would be needed. Hundreds of thousands of people are about to leave the island at the end of the holidays: any sloppiness becomes dangerous.
