Coronavirus in the Netherlands – Infected patients transported to German hospitals

On Tuesday, November 23, the Netherlands began transporting COVID-19 patients to Germany to ease pressure on healthcare facilities. Hospitals are struggling to cope with the surge in coronavirus cases.

The first patient was transferred by ambulance from Rotterdam to a hospital in Bochum on Tuesday morning, health officials said. The distance between the two points was about 240 km. The next patient is already being prepared for transportation. It is also planned to be transported today.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Dutch hospitals in recent weeks has reached its highest level since May and is expected to grow further as the country’s incidence rises to a record high.

German hospitals have offered a total of 20 beds for patients from the Netherlands, after having treated dozens of people in previous waves of the pandemic.

In the Czech Republic, over the past day, about 23 thousand new cases of infection were registered. Weekly data from the National Institutes of Health showed 153,957 new cases were reported in seven days, up 39% from the week before.
