The Peruvian Medical Federation (FMP) announced a 48-hour national strike for Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27 for “not showing concrete solutions through the dialogue table to the points of our union platform“Through a statement sent to the Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti, indicated that, if there is no solution, the strike will resume.

This measure was agreed by the Board of Directors of the FMP, an institution that groups doctors who work for health establishments in the Ministry of Health, public organizations and regional health directorates. In the statement, they reported, however, that on the days of the strike, the services of critical areas and triages “will function normally.”

It should be remembered that last month the Peruvian Medical Federation he had planned to carry out a strike on July 15 and 16; However, this measure was discarded after the union had a meeting with the then Minister of Health, Victor Zamora.

After the meeting between leaders and representatives of the Executive, it was decided to continue working for the benefit of the sector. Likewise, it was reported that on the day that had been scheduled for the start of the strike, a meeting will be held between the Ministry of Health and the representatives of the doctors of this sector.

At that time, the president of the Peruvian Medical Federation, Godofredo Talavera, indicated that during the meeting with the Executive, they discussed the budget for the Health sector, the regulation on the rectory of the Ministry of Health in the regions, the appointment of doctors, promotions in the ranks and the change in occupational groups.

In this new call for the national strike, the demands are maintained and some are added, mainly related to the epidemic of the COVID-19. In addition, to a better salary and the fulfillment of the delivery of the bonuses, the union request better implements to avoid an increase in infections among the staff.
