Coronavirus in Peru | Huancavelica: They warn that burials of people have become new points of spread of COVID-19

The Public Charity of Huancavelica warned that Burials have become sources of contagion for COVID-19, since the people who accompany the funeral procession arrive at the cemeteries at the rhythm of the band and without fulfilling the social distancing.

The president of this Institution, Manuel Mendizabal, stated that many times in the cemetery, the relatives and friends of the deceased struggle to enter and push and shout generating riots. On some occasions they even attack, yell at the guards and attack the funeral carriages.

“These activities are also accompanied by musical bands, without complying with biosecurity protocols,” he said.

The agglomeration of people is registered from the Minsa or EsSalud hospitals to the general cemetery of the city. Despite being forbidden, family and friends march for several blocks without protective measures.

About this theme the director of the Departmental Hospital of Huancavelica, Zacarías Correa Valdivia, said that he will raise the problem with the Regional Council for Citizen Security so that security and control in the cemetery is reinforced.

“This is becoming an infectious and spreading focus for the new coronavirus,” he added.

While, the director of the Health Network of this city, Emma Poma recalled that sanitary regulations allow no more than 30 people in open spaces.

According to the latest report from the COVID-19 Situation Room, the Huancavelica region registers 7,725 positive cases and 111 deathsOf these, the capital of the department has 79 deaths and the provinces of Acobamba and Angaraes 11 each. Only the province of Castrovirreyna reports zero deaths.
