The metropolis of New York City is a coronavirus hotspot. Doctors and nurses work at the limit. As a thank you for their tireless work, the staff of Elmhurst Hospital in NYC have now received a free vacation.

Thousands of people in New York City are infected with the novel coronavirus, and the number of cases is rising rapidly. The metropolitan health system can hardly withstand the pandemic – the hospitals are overloaded. Doctors and nurses work tirelessly and hard to help sick people. The luxury hotel chain Hyatt and the airline American Airlines have now teamed up to thank the heroes of the corona crisis. As reported by CNN, the staff at New York’s Elmhurst Hospital received a special tribute last Friday: three nights of free vacation.

Hyatt and American Airlines join forces

The two companies are giving away free American Airlines round-trip flights to and from Hyatt hotels to select destinations in the United States and the Caribbean. “We hope that the break will help them to recharge their batteries and have more time for their family. And that they will feel our appreciation for their sacrifice and their heroism,” says American Airlines CEO Robert Isom.

“We are very grateful to Hyatt and American Airlines for this generous gift to our healthcare workers who were at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said hospital director Israel Rocha in a statement. The hospital is located in the borough of Queens, a diverse socio-economic district of New York City. According to CNN, the hospital treats a million people each year.
