According to the epidemiological part, at the moment in Argentina there are 586 people with coronavirus hospitalized in intensive care. The percentage of bed occupancy at the national level is 35.1% and in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) it is 39.3%.

No cases were reported in La Pampa, nor in San Juan.

On Friday, the holder of the sanitary portfolio, Carla Vizzotti, referred to the epidemiological panorama of the country and said that Argentina is going through the fourth week of low stability, with increased circulation of the Delta variant and very high population mobility.

In this context, from the Garrahan Pediatric Hospital made known that, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, there are no children or adolescents hospitalized for COVID-19. This was communicated Maria Rosa Bologna, head of the Epidemiological Control and Infectology Service of this health center, who attributed this situation to the vaccination campaign: “It is surely the result of the vaccination process that has been taking place in the general population and in the pediatric population in particular. ”.

After recalling that “more than two and a half million children and adolescents have already been vaccinated in the province of Buenos Aires”, Bologna stressed that “vaccines are effective and safe” in minors. “They not only prevent the disease in this population but also prevent intrafamily transmission and in the areas of circulation“, He said and pointed out that” we must continue to increase the number of vaccinated because the risk of circulation of the Delta variant continues, which we know has a higher transmission rate ”.

According to him Public Vaccination MonitorUntil this morning, 78,868,435 doses were distributed throughout the territory, of which 63,972,842 were applied. In total, 35,732,443 people started their scheme and 27,427,249 completed it. At the same time, 761,377 people received an additional dose, while another 51,773 received a booster dose.

The application of an additional or booster dose depends on different criteria in each case. In Argentina, they have been administered since the beginning of this month, at a different rate according to each district.

The Ministry of Health indicated the application of a third dose in defined population groups: immunocompromised people who have received a primary schedule with any vaccine against COVID-19. This group includes those who receive oncological treatment for solid and onco-hematological tumors, transplants undergoing immunosuppressive treatment, people with moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency, and people with HIV.

It should also be received by people on active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or immunosuppressive medication, and people 50 years or older who have received a primary inactivated virus vaccine, such as Sinopharm, developed in China.

While the booster, meanwhile, is an additional dose, which “strengthens immunity on a regular basis and the recommendations foresee applying it at least six months after having completed the primary two-dose schedule”, as Vizzotti had explained, last October 26 when announcing an extra dose.
