She was first hospitalized because of a high fever. Three days later she was placed in an artificial coma, and had to be kept seated at a 45-degree angle while people with pneumonia were normally lying on their stomachs to facilitate breathing.
The baby was born 14 weeks early
Doctors performed a cesarean and Jefferson was born 14 weeks early.
His chances of survival were not optimal at first. However, the baby quickly started gaining weight and his condition, still in an incubator, gradually improved.
