Update, February 4, 6:22 a.m.: Increasing petitions to the state parliament about corona measures

The Petitions Committee of the Saxon State Parliament is receiving a growing number of petitions against Corona measures.

It is mainly about the protection regulations and the subsequent restrictions, said the committee chairman Simone Lang (49, SPD). However, the decision is often difficult. Because of the burden of the pandemic, the government now has nine weeks to comment instead of four: “Many of the measures that are criticized in the petitions are no longer applicable.”

According to Lang, the same wording of many Corona petitions suggests that they are voted. In any case, there are citizens who regularly submit large numbers of petitions. Often it is about topics such as radio license fees, pensions, authorities or road construction.

“Often people do not agree with a case law. But the Petitions Committee is not a court. On average, 400 to 500 petitions reach the state parliament each year, a third of which are successful, the rest are rejected or forwarded.

She has identified a trend in the petitions: “The tone is becoming increasingly demanding.” Some petitioners showed little understanding that processes and decisions sometimes took a long time.

Lang finds it remarkable that many citizens insisted on a high degree of independence and individuality, but in the end appealed to the state as an authority to solve problems. “Everyone wants to make decisions themselves. But when problems arise, the view is often directed upwards. It does not make sense to write a petition on every little thing,” said Lang.

To this end, they wanted to hold talks with the Saxon state government in the next few days.

Update, February 3, 1:51 p.m.: Protest against Nazis despite Corona on the Dresden Memorial Day

The alliance “Dresden Nazifrei” is planning protests against right-wing extremism on February 13 this year – under Corona conditions. Under the motto “Dresden blocked – no room for Nazis”, the citizens were called to resistance, “in solidarity with mask and distance,” said a spokeswoman on Wednesday.

Specifically, given the current uncertainties, it will most likely not be until shortly before the commemoration day of the destruction of the city at the end of the Second World War.

Despite the exceptional situation, it is about the signal “that Dresden rejects inhuman and derogatory ideologies then and now,” said Zoe Olschewski (Jusos). The left is also planning a rally in the city center. “We want to show the flag: there is no place in Dresden for old and new Nazis.”

The Greens want to prevent historical revisionism by the Nazis with a rally at the rubble woman monument and a vigil at an obelisk. “It will be different in 2021, but not less loud,” said Brid Johnson. The Dresdeners were not primarily victims in the war, but perpetrators, that should not be denied.

The traceability of infections is the decisive criterion.

For easing, the incidence value, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 days within the past seven days, must be below 100 – with “a safe perspective downwards”.

Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (62, SPD) also brought up the lifting of the night curfew. In any case, the government wants to seek the expertise of scientists.
