Despite a new concept for assigning corona vaccination appointments in Baden-Württemberg, some hotline callers only heard the busy signal. The situation should ease in the next few days.

Stuttgart – The newly structured allocation of corona vaccination appointments in Baden-Württemberg has got off to a bumpy start. As a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs said on Tuesday, around 305,000 people tried to call the hotline 116 117 on Monday. Around 20,300 callers got through – either immediately or within the waiting time that was specially limited to five minutes. A busy signal sounded for everyone else. “The first Monday was an exceptional day with a large bow wave of callers,” said the spokesman. “But we expect that the situation will ease in the next few days and that all callers will be served.”

The appointment allocation for a vaccination against the virus was only switched to a so-called recall system on Monday. People who would like to have an appointment are registered and are informed of it later. There are currently around 26,800 people on the waiting list, including the figures from Tuesday lunchtime. More would be added later in the week. From the beginning of the coming week, all those waiting should be called back and given a vaccination appointment.

The recall system was introduced after senior citizens had been waiting for hours in the previous weeks. This is exactly what they wanted to prevent with the option of registering on waiting lists and being called back, it said. People who get a busy signal immediately have to try again, the spokesman said.
