Corona – Thinks Denmark «punished»

On Saturday, the total number of omicron cases in the country went up to 15,452, an increase of 3893 cases from the day before. It shows a daily update from Statens Serum Institut. It was the same day registered over 8500 new corona cases and 126 new admissions.

Several experts believe that Denmark is “punished” by other countries for being good at detecting the omicron variant. It writes Berlingske.

Denmark is a pioneering country when it comes to test and analysis capacity. Every day, they carry out more than 200,000 PCR tests, despite the fact that they have a population of 5.8 million, department director Troels Lillebæk at the Statens Serum Institut recently told Dagbladet.

In addition, they analyze each positive sample to determine if it is omicron or other variants.

“Versting” lists

On Friday, Germany announced that from midnight night to Monday, a requirement will be introduced for a five-day quarantine for unvaccinated visitors from Denmark. Norway was also on this list.

The United States is also concerned. Denmark is on the USA listing over high-risk countries, again together with, among others, Norway. It is recommended to avoid travel to these countries at “level 4”.

Recently, Denmark was also put on Israel’s high-risk list, together with, for example, the United Kingdom. Norway is otherwise marked as an orange country on this list.

On The National Institute of Public Health map of Europe, Denmark is marked in dark red. In green and orange lands, the spread of infection is considered to be so low that there is no requirement for quarantine for travelers, although these areas may also have an increased risk. Travelers arriving from a red, dark red or gray country must be quarantined.

– Dark numbers

– As a starting point, we capture relatively more positive omicron cases than the rest of Europe. It is difficult to imagine other than that there is a significant dark figure in most European countries, because the test level is not as high and broad as in Denmark, says Flemming Konradsen, professor of global public health at the University of Copenhagen.

Flemming is supported by Mads Albertsen, professor of chemistry and life sciences at Aalborg University. He believes the “punishment” makes no sense. He points out that there is already infection in most countries, and that there is no point in closing the borders to selected countries.

The experts also emphasize that Denmark was affected by the omicron variant before most other countries in Europe. They believe that Denmark is a picture of what will almost inevitably affect other countries, writes Ekstra Bladet.
