Food industry in MV: after the Corona crisis, there is often the risk of an end due to high energy prices

The atmosphere in the restaurant business in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has deteriorated again. This is the result of a survey presented today by the German Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Dehoga). With costs soaring and sales declining, six out of 10 hospitality businesses in the Northeast feared for their existence, the association said. The main reason is the high energy prices. “This development is dramatic, as the energy crisis is affecting companies that have already been drained financially by the Crown crisis and are at least economically struggling,” said Dehoga state president Lars Schwarz. According to the survey participants, energy costs will increase by an average of 50% from October and up to 117% from January 2023.

The bus industry is down 77% in 2020 and 2021

The corona pandemic and related restrictions have hit the bus industry hard. The number of passengers (excluding regular services) in the two years Corona 2020 and 2021 was more than three quarters (77%) below the level of the pre-crisis year 2019, as announced today by the Federal Statistical Office. Between 2019 and 2021, the number of companies making bus trips away from long-distance bus lines decreased from about 320 to about 2,650. To combat the crown pandemic, industry driving bans have been repeated at the federal and state levels for different periods of time since March 17, 2020. Travel events such as school trips were also partially banned until 2021.

Hamburg social authority: the incidence value increased significantly

According to the Hamburg social authorities, the incidence value in the Hanseatic city has increased significantly over the past seven days. It is now at 263.1. A week ago it was 213.3. The number of new infections in the past seven days is 5,010 – in the previous week it was 4,063.

Hamburg’s social authorities present their report on the development of the crown in the city only once a week. The value for the seven-day incidence of new infections often differs significantly from that of RKI, which reports the numbers daily.

Immunologist Falk: Most people with good defenses against the omicron variant

Christine Falk, president of the German Society for Immunology, sees the population well armed against the new variants of the corona virus: “The virus can change, but in the end it always remains the same pathogen,” the immunologist told the magazine “severe “. According to the expert, most people have a strong immune system against the predominant variants of omicron. “Almost all of the 40 or so mutations that the virus has been optimized to enter our cells even more effectively have formed at the front of the spike protein,” Falk says. “The back, on the other hand, looks almost the same as the original virus.” Following vaccinations, our immune system would also have formed antibodies and T cells against this part. They could not neutralize the virus or prevent it from entering the cell. However, they would help activate the immune system. The number of vaccinations needed by the immune system to prevent serious illness depends, among other things, on age. There are good reasons why the fourth corona vaccination is especially recommended for older age groups, says Falk, who is also a member of the federal government’s Corona Expert Council: “Without this immune protection, they have a greater risk of becoming seriously ill. “

Werder wants to tighten crown measures again

Due to the increasing numbers of the crown, Werder Bremen wants to tighten its measures. “We recently had an exchange with the health department and will decide in the next week how to proceed,” said Bremen boss Clemens Fritz. “In the next few days, we will also be in contact with the medical department,” said Fritz. The former professional explained that there are currently no special requirements from the German Football League. There had been several cases of crowns in the Bundesliga recently. Incidentally, the two Bayern professionals Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Müller and the first division coaches Daniel Farke (Mönchengladbach), Urs Fischer (Union Berlin) and Christian Streich (Freiburg) tested positive for the coronavirus. “The subject is annoying, but we never tire of raising awareness among players,” said Fritz. “We will certainly strengthen one or the other to get through the autumn and winter safely.”

6 and 30 in the morning

Hamburg: RKI reports 269 new infections

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recently registered 269 new corona infections in Hamburg. The seven-day incidence therefore dropped to 185.3 (previous day: 226.9).

06:20

Lower Saxony: The seven-day incidence rises to 501.3

For Lower Saxony, the Robert Koch Institute reported a seven-day incidence of new corona infections per 100,000 population of 501.3. This is a significant increase from yesterday’s reading of 429.9. The number of new infections reported is 14,461.

06:15

RKI: 132,494 new infections nationwide – incidence at 462.4

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported the seven-day morning nationwide incidence as 462.4 (previous day: 414.0 / previous week: 409.9). German health authorities recently reported 132,494 new corona infections (previous week: 78,863) and 97 deaths (previous week: 94) to RKI in one day. The RKI has counted 33,652,255 Sars-CoV-2 infections since the start of the pandemic.

06:10

Schleswig-Holstein: the incidence increases to 423.3

In Schleswig-Holstein, a coronary incidence of 423.3 new infections per 100,000 population was recorded in one week. The seven-day incidence increased significantly in a weekly comparison: a week ago it was 350.7. The number of people currently being treated in the state’s ICUs in connection with a corona infection has also increased – there are 50 patients with a corona infection there, up from nearly half a week earlier. The number of new infections reported in the country was 4,100. A week earlier it had been 2,250. Since the onset of the pandemic, 2,906 people have died in Schleswig-Holstein from a corona infection – there have been 16 new deaths in one week.

Note on current data: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infectious situation. Experts assume a large number of cases not registered by RKI, mainly because not all infected people have performed a PCR test. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. Furthermore, delayed recordings or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases throughout the week.
