Health Minister Ernst Kuipers calls on carnival celebrants to take into account that the corona virus is still far away. “Celebrate it in your own environment, go to the cafe, but avoid large crowds,” is his urgent advice. This is especially true for people in risk groups.
Carnival is celebrated from February 25 to March 1. Most corona restrictions will then be lifted. For example, there are no longer any restrictions on the number of visitors in the catering industry, and it is no longer necessary to show a corona ticket. According to Kuipers, mayors of the carnival municipalities have already indicated that very large events around carnival will not take place.
Expert group OMT previously also drew attention to people with vulnerable health. In general, the omikron variant is much less pathogenic than earlier variants, but infection can still have serious consequences for high-risk groups.
