The Dutch economy contracted more than expected in the first quarter of this year. The gross domestic product fell by 0.8 percent compared to the previous three months, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported. Previously, 0.5 percent shrinkage was reported, but Statistics Netherlands now has more data than with the first estimate in May. The contraction was caused by consumers spending much less when shops, cafes, restaurants and other places had to close en masse to stop a new wave of corona infections.
