Thus, the death toll of the Latin American country reached 34,021 cases, and it comes after the United States and the United Kingdom only.

The Brazilian Indigenous Association has sounded the alarm, with the death rate from the Corona virus among indigenous peoples more than 5-fold in one month.

The APIB, whose umbrella group brings together 305 tribes in Brazil, confirmed that the death toll from the Coronavirus among indigenous peoples by June 1, 182, was 28 at the end of last April.

A resident of the Sororo village, inhabited by Itamaría Surui people, said that the virus recently killed a tribal elder and infected many residents, as the Brazilian government did not provide the tribe with tests to detect the virus.

Data provided by the Brazilian government contrast with those issued by APIB, where central authorities have confirmed the death of 59 indigenous people in protected areas.

For his part, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez announced the extension of the comprehensive ban in the capital, Buenos Aires and other regions, due to the high incidence of HIV infection, until the 28th of June.

Fernandez noted that the decision was taken after the country passed 20,000 confirmed cases earlier Thursday.

He stressed that “the ban imposed since March 20, which was scheduled to be lifted on June 7, has been extended due to high cases of infection,” although officials have eased restrictions in some areas of the country.

Argentina has succeeded in slowing the rise in new infections, by imposing strict public isolation measures at the country level, as it does not allow residents of major cities to leave their homes, except for necessary work or emergency situations, or the purchase of food and family supplies.

In Latin America, too, the Mexican Ministry of Health announced a record number of people infected with the new Coronavirus, after announcing 4,442 new cases during the past 24 hours.

The ministry indicated that the new registered numbers raised the total number of cases in the country to 105,680 cases.

And she continued: “816 new deaths were recorded, bringing the total to 12,545 deaths.”

Mexico has witnessed an outbreak of the virus at an accelerated rate during the recent period, as it recorded more than a week about 3 thousand new infections every day or more.
