Meiningen / Queenstown – How long can a mother’s heart endure this? Peggy Hieronymus (44) from Belrieth has been separated from her daughter Xavion (11) for around 400 days.
The Thuringian has lived in New Zealand since 2005, where she has been running her “Breakfast at Tiffanys” hotel for eleven years. Daughter Xavion has been with her father, Peggy’s ex-boyfriend, in Australia since December 2019.
“The hard lockdown and the strict and expensive quarantine rules are to blame for us,” says the desperate mother.
Xavion actually lives with her mother in New Zealand
“In January of last year, I visited my hometown Belrieth to celebrate Carnival with friends,” says Peggy. “I was even the carnival princess.”
After five weeks it went back on the plane, she picked up her son Dantay (7) from his father in Alice Springs, Australia. Peggy: “Our daughter stayed. She wanted to go to school in the outback for three months. “
But on March 24th, New Zealand went into total lockdown: “All borders are closed until today – and my daughter Xavion is far away in Australia! I feel powerless, tired and empty in my heart. “
There are also serious worries about her hotel. “The tourists stay away. How am I supposed to pay for a flight now, the $ 3,100 for a quarantine spot, ongoing costs? ”Says Peggy.
In her need she opened a donation account (www.xavicomebackhome.com): “Many of my friends from my old homeland have already donated, including the carnivalists, but also hotel guests.”
