Last week, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the theory that the coronavirus was caused by a leak from a laboratory in China had been rejected “prematurely”. Tedros stated that the theory should be investigated further, and asked the Chinese authorities to share all available information from the laboratories before and during the outbreak.
On Thursday, China’s Deputy Health Minister Zeng Yixin will respond. He says the laboratory theory is contrary to common sense, and is shocked by the WHO’s desire to investigate it further. It writes Associated Press.
According to Yixin, the laboratory in Wuhan did not contain any virus that could infect humans. The Minister points out that China has made repeated clarifications about the laboratory in Wuhan, and opposes the WHO’s plan for further investigation.
“It is impossible for us to accept such an investigation of its origins,” Yixin told a news conference.
At the same time as the WHO announces that they will investigate the origin of the virus more closely, US intelligence is well under way with its investigation. According to CNN, the intelligence community believes that it is now just as likely that the virus originated in a laboratory as in nature. The Americans, on the other hand, have not found any concrete evidence in favor of one or the other theory.
