Corona in New York – Supreme Court overturns visitor limit in churches

The US Supreme Court has lifted the limit on the number of visitors to New York state religious establishments.

The order violates the right to religious freedom set out in the first amendment, decided the judge. They approved urgent applications from the Catholic Church and a Jewish Orthodox organization against the Corona protective measure.

The verdict was five to four votes. The decisive factor was the vote of the conservative constitutional judge Barrett, who has only been a constitutional judge for a few weeks. President Trump had pushed the conservative Christian lawyer against the will of the opposition Democrats. Barrett rejected speculation at the time that her personal opinions would influence her decisions as a judge.
