Corona in Lower Saxony: These stricter rules now apply

From November 11th

Due to increasing Covid numbers, the state of Lower Saxony has decided to tighten the new Corona regulation significantly. An overview of the rules from November 11th.

Göttingen – The state of Lower Saxony has tightened the measures due to the increasing number of cases in the new Corona regulation. These will officially come into force on Thursday, November 11th, 2021. In order to slow down the number of new infections every day and to prevent overloading the health system, Lower Saxony is now gradually switching to 2G, allowing access in certain areas only to fully vaccinated and recovered people.

Like the land on the Homepage announces, further tightening of the regulation can be expected in the near future. “Our aim is to get through the coming cold and wet months as well as possible, to prevent our health system from being overwhelmed and to save as many people as possible from serious illnesses and death,” said Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD). The current rules here at a glance.

Corona in Lower Saxony: These stricter rules now apply

The following changes apply from November 11th in Lower Saxony:

  • Events: In closed rooms, the 2G rule applies from warning level 1 to large events with over 5000 participants and events with over 1000 participants. Previously, this only applied from warning level 3.
  • Test obligation: Daily testing is mandatory for unvaccinated staff in care facilities and old people’s homes. In slaughterhouses and cutting plants, tests are to be carried out every other day.
  • Sport: In showers and changing rooms, the 3G rule now applies from warning level 1, including for those who do outdoor sports.
  • Christmas markets: The 3G rule for catering must be ensured and complied with at Christmas markets. With 2G, the mask and distance requirement can be omitted.
  • Indoor catering: For warning levels 2 and 3, the enforcement of 2G in the interior of the restaurant is mandatory.
  • Discos, clubs, bars: From warning level 2, the 2G rule applies both indoors and outdoors. From warning level 3, only outside can be opened.

The 3G rule comes into force from warning level 1 or a stable incidence of over 50 new infections in Lower Saxony districts and cities. In all of the above areas, however, regardless of the incidence and warning level, at least the 3G regulation applies – proof of testing, recovery and vaccination is essential. In spite of everything, the implementation of 2G is “strongly recommended” by the state of Lower Saxony. Restaurateurs, organizers and operators can also introduce these voluntarily – masking and distance requirements may then be omitted.

Step by step to the 2G rule in Lower Saxony: Corona regulation comes into force

However, there are exceptions to the 2G rules in Lower Saxony: children and young people up to the age of 18 are allowed access to the areas despite everything. This is due to the daily corona tests in schools. Furthermore, people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are not affected. These require a medical certificate as well as proof of a negative rapid test in order to be allowed to enter 2G areas. Employees are not obliged to provide the employer with information about the respective vaccination status. Nursing professions, for example, are excluded from this. SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach believes that information about corona vaccinations for employees is currently urgently needed.

There are no new changes to the mask requirement in schools: Pupils in grades one and two still don’t have to wear a mask in class, while everyone else does. Violations of the current regulations from the Corona Ordinance represent an administrative offense. As the state of Lower Saxony informs, fines of up to 25,000 euros can be incurred, depending on the case. (Alina Schröder)

Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) has also said that the booster vaccinations against Corona in Lower Saxony will soon be further promoted.
