Corona downplayers wander through Berlin for hours: many middle fingers and ridicule for demonstrating lateral thinkers – Berlin

Despite the ban on demonstrations, several thousand opponents of the corona measures again marched through Berlin on Sunday. After groups of unconventional thinkers had initially mobilized to Volkspark Humboldthain via Telegram, but this was cordoned off by the police over a large area, they succeeded Protesters From the early afternoon, you can travel largely unhindered through Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain.

Mask and distance requirements were systematically ignored, as on the previous day. The protests took place on the anniversary of the failed Reichstag storm by people who played down the corona on August 29, 2020. However, spokesmen of the scene had called for people to avoid the government district this time because it was too heavily guarded. Instead, the protest should be carried out in Berlin’s residential area. There, however, the demonstrators and their messages met with little approval.

Both in Prenzlauer Berg and in Friedrichshain they were repeatedly shown middle fingers by passers-by, residents poured water from the balcony. A restaurateur explained to the lateral thinkers through the open window of his bar that they should finally stop their “humbug”. Sometimes a woman demanded “Piss off our neighborhood”, sometimes a man on the roadside shouted: “My grandpa is 90, you are a murderer!” The conspiracy ideologist Boris Reitschuster claims that he was pelted with a flower pot.

In addition, the protest marches seemed badly disoriented at times. This could also be due to the tactics of the police, which had already been used on Saturday: While they let the crowd of demonstrators walk, officials repeatedly targeted alleged ringleaders illegal marches fixed. As a result, the protesters sometimes had to spontaneously decide which street they wanted to turn into next. Several times, demonstration trains, in which representatives of the right-wing extremist “Identitarian Movement” also took part, turned in circles or ran into dead ends. The police said on Twitter: “There are currently a few thousand people wandering the streets. A non-existent plan is difficult to prevent.”

In total, the police arrested 80 people on Sunday by early evening. The tactic of concentrating on the ringleaders and thus disorienting the crowd moving through the city had already emerged last week. Several leading figures in the scene were visited in advance by officials and warned against conducting illegal demonstrations.

The police now know scene heads well

How well the Berlin police are now moving the A scene on Saturday showed a scene on Saturday: When the lawyer Markus Haintz, once a close confidante of lateral thinking founder Michael Ballweg, failed due to a police chain and had to turn back, a police officer said goodbye to him with a wink with the words: “Me read on Telegram that you are an undercover agent “.

The official alluded ironically to a rumor that is currently being spread by several conspiracy ideologues with whom Markus Haintz has fallen out. The Berlin author and activist Magdalena Jany, who has been spreading conspiracy myths under the stage name Aya Velázquez for months, claims, for example, that in addition to Markus Haintz, various prominent lateral thinkers are actually “V-people”. These deny that.

Will German citizens soon be banned from private property?

The protest at Leipziger Platz on Sunday afternoon was much more structured than the demonstrations: there, the lateral thinker party “Die Basis” held an approved rally. Speakers spread wild conspiracy myths. One claimed that after the general election all citizens should be banned from private property, but the government is currently keeping this plan a secret. The small party, which was massively divided internally, wanted to use the weekend to campaign for votes in the federal election. On Leipziger Platz they were convinced that they would soon be sitting next to the AfD as the “second real opposition party” in parliament.

Towards the end of the event, a speaker expressed his hope that many people will die from the consequences of the corona vaccination before the federal election so that the population wakes up and votes in the interests of the party. Nobody contradicted him.
