‘Corona crisis leads to an increase in serious mental complaints’

The corona crisis is especially severe for people with psychological complaints who look ahead and are gloomy about their future or that of the Netherlands. It is striking that people who suffer from psychoses are currently less affected by complaints. For them, the corona crisis has advantages, such as more rest, a reduction of stimuli and (social) stress.

Custom treatment

The panel was also asked about how treatment during the crisis has been adapted. Only a quarter of the 600 panel members say they still have face-to-face contact, and the number of people who are visited at home has decreased from 38 to 9 percent. This means that the recent GGZ guideline that stipulates that personal contact is possible again is not being complied with.

Still, 55 percent are satisfied with the form of contact during the crisis. However, people with whom the amendments have been discussed are much more satisfied with the current situation.

The 600 members of the Psychically Seen panel were asked about their experiences and perception of well-being during the corona crisis. The group consists of people aged 18 or older who normally already suffer from psychological complaints, such as psychoses, bipolar disorder, persistent depression or a personality disorder.

300,000 Dutch people

According to the Trimbos Institute, the panel’s experiences are representative of those of the approximately 300,000 Dutch people who suffer from these serious psychological complaints.
