Berlin. Second game cancellation within three days: After seven corona cases in the Füchse Berlin team, the EHF canceled the game of the Berlin handball Bundesliga club in the European League against Pfadi Winterthur. The game should take place on Tuesday evening in Switzerland (8.45 p.m.).
After the Bundesliga game in Mannheim last Saturday, it is the second duel that had to be canceled because of the corona infections at the Füchsen. A new date has not yet been set on Monday.
Seven Füchse Berlin players tested positive for the corona virus over the weekend. The team then went into self-imposed self-isolation. At the personal request of the players, Füchse Berlin will not publish their names.
Another professional from Füchse Berlin complains of symptoms
“I would never have dreamed that you would go to a game in good health and have such a high chain of infections within 24 hours. The players should be boosted next Wednesday, it’s a sporting disaster for us, “said Füchse managing director Bob Hanning:” But now it’s about the health of our team. The courses are different, but thanks to the vaccinations, thankfully not more serious at the moment. “
Due to the new regulations in Baden-Württemberg, rapid tests were carried out in Mannheim on Saturday. During the course of the day, several players felt uncomfortable, three positive rapid tests were subsequently confirmed with a further PCR test. Seven players are now affected, another complains of symptoms, so it is assumed that there may be at least one more case. The Füchse Berlin are in contact with all responsible authorities and communicate here openly, according to a club announcement.
Füchse Berlin will be tested again on Tuesday
All players and those responsible at Füchse Berlin are vaccinated at least twice against Covid-19, and those infected currently have no or mild symptoms. After consulting Professor Bernd Wolfahrt from the Berlin Charité, the team immediately went into quarantine at home.
The next corona test of the players will be carried out on Tuesday in close coordination with the Charité and the health department. The quarantine regulations are determined in coordination with the authorities. For further possible game cancellations, the Füchse Berlin are in direct contact with the responsible institutions, the club explained.
