“Corona bonus” causes trouble at HHLA | NDR.de – news

Status: 02.02.2021 6:00 a.m.

The Hamburg port operator HHLA is seething: just last week, several hundred employees went on strike – there are now allegations against the management of the company because of corona bonuses for executive employees.

According to a letter from the HHLA shop stewards and the ver.di union, this violates decency and morality. Reason for the outrage: The company management paid executives and executives 1,500 euros “Corona bonus” for the past year. The normal collective bargaining employees, however, received only 240 euros. And this despite the fact that they “risk their health every day to keep the business running,” according to the union.

Around 40 employees received one-off payments

At the request of NDR 90.3, a HHLA spokesman confirmed that around 40 employees in the company had received 1,500 euros as a one-off payment. In return, the executives would not have received a raise – unlike the other employees.

In view of the corona pandemic, employers and ver.di only agreed on an increase of one percent last year. According to CEO Angela Titzrath, HHLA is still in the black despite the pandemic.

Warning strike at HHLA subsidiaries

Since the early morning there has also been the next warning strike in the port of Hamburg. Craftsmen and service staff from a HHLA subsidiary went on strike for almost three days. The ver.di union wants to ensure that the same tariff rules apply to them as in the parent company.
