[아시아경제 성기호 기자] The approval rating of Japan’s Suga Yoshihide Cabinet plunged due to the spread of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and suspicions related to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
In a telephone poll conducted by Kyodo News Agency against Japanese voters on the 5th and 6th, the Suga cabinet’s approval rating was 50.3%, down 12.7% from the survey on the 14th to 15th of last month. On the other hand, the proportion of respondents who responded that Suga did not support the cabinet rose 13.6% to 32.8%.
In this survey, the opinion that the Japanese government’s response to Corona 19 was negatively evaluated was 55.5%, more than those who responded positively (37.1%).
Also, when asked whether to prioritize the spread of infection or economic activities, 76.2% of respondents chose to prevent the spread of infection.
It seems that the Suga regime’s failure to thoroughly respond to allegations surrounding former Prime Minister Abe also adversely affected public opinion.
57.4% of the opinions that the Japanese government should re-examine allegations of former Prime Minister Abe related to the’cherry blossom viewing group’. 38.4% of the opinions that re-examination was not necessary.
77.4% of the respondents responded that they could not accept the answer to the suspicion that former Prime Minister Abe had paid for the cost of the dinner by inviting voters and others the day before the cherry blossom viewing meeting, and 60.5% said that Abe should be present to the National Assembly on this matter.
